'My sister is a big Mac Fan. I can certainly see why you are making the switch in some ways. My main reason to hesitate is not based on the product but on the philosophies of Apple Corp and the way they do business. I may have to reconsider that due to the product some day. So basically you have said that we can still run embird and I assume any other windows based embroidery software on a mac. Did you find a delay in running any of those programs on a mac? Does it take multiple steps to switch from surfing on the mac to using one of the PC programs or do you just click on an icon to get to the program? Don't you use the ability to see the embroidery designs as iconz? Or can you still do this somehow? (I would be lost if I could not look through designs without having to be inside of a program.) Holly has embird run pretty flawlessly on the Mac? (I realize you mainly use generations, but wondered about the other). Most importantly, I use a Lenovo Tablet PC for digitizing. I draw directly on the screen. Does Mac have this capability? How would I digitize other than just with a mouse?'

Cari - those are the exact same questions Holly had :-) In fact, your last question is what made her drag her feet on switching for 4 months.
I can only answer some of them right now but in a couple more days Holly should be able to answer all of them.
So far she has loaded Generations and digitized for a couple hours. She is using a Bamboo tablet. Mac does not make a tablet notebook. You can buy a MacBook or MacBook Pro that has been converted by a third-party to have a Wacom screen on it but we did not want to go that expense initially while Holly tries out the Mac world.
If Holly likes using the Mac (so far it's thumbs-up) then we will probably add an active Wacom like the small Cintiq WX-12 tablet and use that as her monitor/pen-input device. Later, we may buy a tablet if she wants to, but I suspect that the Cintiq will be the point where she stays and will keep the Bamboo in her computer bag in case she wants to digitize while on battery power.
We will load Embird with Iconizer as soon as we are finished with the data transfer. The hold-up is the Windows 7 tablet PC she uses is taking 7 hours to copy the data onto an external hard drive.
This next part will be confusing because the word windows and Windows mean two different things... :-)

Coherence and Crystal make the Windows programs into 'just another icon on the Mac screen'. They differ in where the icons reside when not in use. When you click one of the Windows programs it launches it in as if it were just another Mac program. I find that a bit disconcerting. Psychological I'm sure.
You can run Windows as 'Full Screen' which looks like you are just sitting in front of a Windows PC. You can also run it 'windowed' which means it looks like Windows running in a window within the normal Mac desktop. I will add a picture of that as it's kind of odd to explain.
The other way that I haven't even used is called 'modality'. Don't know how it works yet.
Holly said that there is an occasional hesitation when running Generations in Parallels. It's not enough to interrupt her work but she has noticed it at time. On the other hand, there is no hesitation when running it on my Mac. The difference is that she is running my two year old MacBook which is the lowest powered Mac on the market. I am running the most powerful one available because I edit video files and that requires a lot of horsepower. To compare the two machines... when I edited a 1 hour and 13 minute high-def video on my MacBook it took over 6 hours to process the final file. The same video on my iMac i7 took 23 minutes. So if you are going to buy a Mac for digitizing and the low-end MacBook will hesitate a bit at times, then the smart thing to do is to buy a faster Mac with more RAM.
We will let you know about how Embird Iconizer works on the Mac as soon as we have it loaded up.
